ARTIST STATEMENT

Exploring the space between art, architecture and life, my studio practice focuses on the idea of Everyday Void. Challenging traditional notions about the places we live, I use my position as an immigrant to investigate what others may take for granted. Guided by the concept of “Collage Mentality,” how I describe my approach to having an integrated life and studio practice, I tell stories about the neglected space found in everyday life.

Experiments and investigations of making while relating mindfully to material processes can result in absurdly playful forms. I enjoy collaborating with chance. Artworks include sculptures and large assemblage constructions like large screens and arches, made from found materials, whose dimensions are determined by their sites. Smaller works on paper include analog relief prints and intimate collages. Inspired materially by the flotsam and jetsam of life, a large part of my practice is collecting and amalgamating waste materials diverted from the domestic realm.
